What is EnCorps (pronounced “encore”)?
The Governor’s EnCorps Teachers Program is an innovative public-private partnership dedicated to increasing the number of much-needed math and science teachers in California’s public middle and high schools.
“It’s critical that we take action now and get enough qualified and experienced teachers into our classrooms as soon as possible. We must make sure California’s students have a strong foundation and are well-prepared with the skills they need to take on the challenges of the 21st Century,” said Gov. Schwarzenegger.
EnCorps is an initiative developed and implemented by PrimeTime, the flagship program of the Sherry Lansing Foundation. PrimeTime seeks to redefine retirement and address our most pressing social issues.
"EnCorps is a unique public/private opportunity that partners government with business to help recruit retiring professionals to the classroom - helping California meet the huge demand for math and science teachers,” said Sherry Lansing, a member of the Governor's Advisory Committee on Education Excellence and founder of the Sherry Lansing Foundation.
Inspired by IBM’s successful Transition to Teaching program, EnCorps will serve as a critical piece of Governor Schwarzenegger’s broader teacher recruitment. Additionally, EnCorps was developed with guidance of the Governor’s Committee on Educational Excellence.
EnCorps’ Boot Camp 2009-Back to School
EnCorps’ face-to-face event called, Boot Camp, occurs every summer for people who have joined the EnCorps Program in the 2008 or 2009 cohort of teachers . Boot Camp is intended to create an environment where you can:
o Understand the key elements of effective teaching
o Know what assets and skills you bring to the classroom
o See yourself as part of a community of change makers in education
o Understand what Teaching Career Pathways are available to you

How does Boot Camp fit into my overall Teacher Preparation program at EnCorps?
Boot Camp is staged each summer to prepare Pioneers as they plan for their first teaching experiences in the Fall of that year. This includes both Substitute and Full Time teaching experiences.
In addition, Boot Camp complements the University or district credentialing programs that EnCorps Pioneer join as they become Full Time teachers.
This year's Boot Camp is hosted in USC from June 5 to Jun 7, 2009. The USC host is Larry Lim.
